广东茂名人。16岁开始学习绘画。在茂名县立中学毕业后，于1920年在叔父丁颖的资助下赴日留学，先后在川端画学校、东京美术学校就读。1925年学成返国，活跃于上海艺坛。先后任立达学园美术科、神州女学艺术科教授，中华艺术大学董事兼教务长、艺术教育系主任，1928年回广州筹备市立美术博物馆，任常务会美术部主任，兼任市立美术学校西画教授。1932年赴上海，任教于新华艺术专科学校。1941年回粤后即往四川国立艺术专科学校教授西画。1946年应聘为广东省立艺术专科学校校长。1949年移居香港，以教画为生。1956年起在新亚书院艺术专修科、艺术系任教。1961年兼任德明书院艺术系主任。1973年开始在香港中文大学校外进修部教授国画直至逝世。曾多次在国内外举办作品个展和参加联展。丁氏早年习西画，1929年以后开始研习中国画，并从事篆刻及美术理论撰述。去世后香港举办了丁衍庸遗作展、丁衍庸作品回顾展等，并设立有丁衍庸学业成绩奖、丁衍庸艺术奖、丁衍庸画会等。出版有《丁衍庸画集》、《丁衍庸画册》、《丁衍庸的书画印章》(法文)等。

Ding Yanyong(1902- )
Born in Maoming, Guangdong.Famous painter who held many solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions both at home and abroad. As a young man, he studied western painting, and began to learn Chinese painting after 1929. He also did seal cutting and wrote books about art theories. After his death, exhibitions dedicated to his works were held in Hong Kong. Scholarship fund, art award and painting studio were founded in his name. Published works: Paintings by Ding Yanyong, Painting Album of Ding Yanyong, and Calligraphy, Painting and Seal Works by Ding Yanyong(in French).(Lot 17)
