Gehard Demetz, born in Bolzano in 1972, studied at the Art Institute in Bolzano, Selva, where he studied sculpture and practiced with Matthias Resch. He graduated in 1995. Today he lives and works in Bolzano, Selva.
From 2000 to 2001, Gehard Demetz went to Salzburg International College in the summer, where he con?tinued his education with a number of teachers.
Since 1996, Gehard Demetz has been working as a sculpture teacher at the Sculpture School in Otisei. Until 2007, he decided to take a break from teaching and devote all his energy to his sculpture work.
In 2005, Gehard Demetz began to collaborate with Rubin Gallery in Milan. Gehard Demetz published an article in the “International Herald Tribune”, which created an opportunity for him to present his first American exhibition at the Greenberg-Van Doren Gallery in 2009.
In 2010, Gehard Demetz began to work with Beck & Eggeling Gallery in Dusseldorf.
Jack Shainman Gallery began to collaborate with Gehard Demetz in 2011. the Gallery later became Ge?hard Demetz's "First Gallery". Jack Shainman Gallery has exhibited Gehand Demetz's works at various internationd exhibitions such as Miami Basel Art Exhibition, New York Armory Art Fair and New York Fritz Art fair.
Following "Treshold space" and "The invocation", Gehard Demetz will hold his third solo show at Jack Shanman space in Chelsea, New York in 2017.
Since 2011, Gehard Demetz has held several museum exhibitions, such as: Milheim Museum on the Ruhr River, Bochum Museum, National Academy Museum, MOCA Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Sa?cramento Crocker Museum, MACRO Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, The Duke of Mantova Pala?ce Museum.
