In his creative journey, Wei Shen has consistently rejected fleeting trends and stylistic homogenization, forging a unique spiritual path of his own. He transcends the conventional boundaries between Eastern and Western art, deeply integrating the Western Surrealist exploration of the subconscious and inner spiritual world with traditional Eastern philosophy and aesthetics of the mind. Through a tripartite artistic approach—seeing with the physical eye, perceiving with the spirit, and engaging in dialogue with the subconscious—Wei Shen moves beyond superficial visual expression to reach the essence of human nature and the spirit of the times.

 

His landmark series, Sea of Humanity and Portraits of Beings, employ symbolic human figures and vortex-like compositions to capture the myriad expressions of worldly existence. 国际艺术家，1966年出生于广西天峨，毕业于桂林教育学院美术系，1993年进驻圆明园画家村，至今工作生活于北京，中国最早的职业画家之一。

 

现为英国伦敦大学国王学院客座教授，美国哈佛大学客座教授，北京广西文化艺术促进会会长兼法人代表，韩中美术推进委员会委员长（中方），“艺术与健康”项目创始人。

 

2003年-2013年策划十届中韩国际艺术交流展，2006年-2010年在美国哈佛大学教授“中国当代艺术”课程。2009年和2013年荣获韩国政府颁发的“韩中美术交流杰出贡献奖”。相继在中国美术馆、云峰画苑、国际艺苑、和美国、荷兰、瑞典、韩国等多个国家博物馆举办个人画展二十余次，参加联合展五十次。

 

出版《浮生记：艺术与精神》《韦申当代艺术》等专著。近年来从事“潜意识”、“超验”绘画方面的研究，代表系列作品《人山人海系列》《众生相系列》《游山玩水系列》等。

 

 

International independent artist, born in 1966 in Tian’e, Guangxi. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Guilin Institute of Education. In 1993, he settled in the Yuanmingyuan Artist Village and has since lived and worked in Beijing, making him one of China’s earliest professional artists.

 

He currently serves as a Visiting Professor at King’s College London, and as a Visiting Professor at Harvard University. He is also President and Legal Representative of the Beijing Guangxi Cultural and Artistic Promotion Association, Chairman (China side) of the Korea-China Art Promotion Committee, and founder of the “Art and Health” project.

 

From 2003 to 2013, he organized ten editions of the Korea-China International Art Exchange Exhibition. Between 2006 and 2010, he taught the course “Contemporary Chinese Art” at Harvard University. In 2009 and 2013, he was awarded the “Outstanding Contribution Award for Korea-China Art Exchange” by the Korean government. He has held over twenty solo exhibitions and participated in more than fifty group exhibitions in prestigious venues, including the National Art Museum of China, Yunfeng Art Gallery, International Art Palace, as well as museums in the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden, South Korea, and other countries.

 

He is the author of Floating Life: Art and Spirit and Wei Shen Contemporary Art. In recent years, his research has focused on “the subconscious” and “the transcendental” in painting. His major series include People Mountain People Sea, Sentient Beings, and Wandering Through Mountains and Waters, among others.
